A Week in Farm Photos January 12th - 18th

This week brought a few scattered snow flurries, more cold temperatures AND our very first blue Ameraucana egg E.V.E.R.! After hatching a bunch of Ameraucana and Araucana roosters, buying Easter Eggers that I was told were Ameraucanas but weren't, and various other calamities, our Blue Ameraucana, Virginia, finally laid her first egg - at 38 weeks old! It was a long wait but SO worth it!

Meanwhile our ducks continue to lay through the cold temperatures and short days, providing us a constant supplly of delicious fresh eggs.

BECAUSE LIFE IS JUST BETTER WITH CHICKENS!

I would love for you to join me here...

  1. Congrats! That is a pretty dark one too. Wait 'til spring when you have a variety of colors in your basket - it will be just beautiful.

  5. Lovely blue eggs!

We tried ducks but they wouldn't go in at night and I worried about predators. I re-homed them. I tried twice but could never get them to go inside.

    1. It's true ducks don't go in automatically like chickens do but once you get one headed in the right direction, they all follow. Easy!

  6. I think your blue egg is beautiful. I never saw a blue chicken before and think your blue chicken is really beautiful! What breed is that? I'd like to have a flock of those.

  7. I'm glad I haven't placed our order for chicks yet because I think I will re-evaluate and add several Ameraucanas to the mix! :)

  8. The blue shades in that eye are so eye catching, they can't be duplicated in art. Oh I love them.
