As a woman approaching a 'certain age', one of my New Year's Resolutions this year is to take better care of myself to include exercising more, eating less (and better) and finding some easy, natural, homemade concoctions for better hair, skin, and nails. Starting with my skin, I have been reading up on egg white facials.
What could be easier? We certainly always have eggs, and if you just use your finger to remove the white left in the shell once you've cracked the egg, whisk it well and smear it on your face, you've got a simple facial mask. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes until the white dries and hardens (try not to move your face while the mask is drying) and then rinse it off.
The proteins, collagen and vitamins in the egg white reportedly can help temporarily tighten your skin, remove fine lines, oil and dead skin, and even lessen the effects of acne and rosacea. If you feel more ambitious, Home made Masks offers suggestions of add-ins for your specific skin type. A bit of lemon juice added to your egg whites will cleanse pores and act as a cleanser for your skin. Some oatmeal and honey added in help to cleanse, soothe and exfoliate. Apple pulp is another great exfoliating ingredient and some smashed avocado will help nourish and smooth your skin.
Of course there are naysayers out there who refute the claims that egg whites have any benefits at all for your skin, but the way I see it, it's free and easy, so I really don't have anything to lose. I have embarked on Operation Egg White Facial, promising myself at least two egg white facial masks each week. I shall report back on my results, I promise! In the meantime, have YOU ever tried an egg white facial mask? Or do you have another favorite facial concoction using fresh, natural ingredients you could share?
