The weekend before last I made the trip to Seven Springs, Pennsylvania to appear at the Mother Earth News Fair. It was my second year at the fair and I have to say the Seven Springs ski resort is the perfect venue. Over the course of the weekend I presented talks on raising chickens naturally, adding ducks to your flock and gardening with chickens to standing room only audiences. I also signed books and got to meet so many of you in person.
For those of you who couldn’t make it, I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from the fair. I always spend way too much time in the animal tent (Meyer Hatchery even had an incubator full of eggs that kept hatching all weekend in their booth!), but do manage to wander around the vendor tents and bring home some pretty neat souvenirs from talented artisans. This year, I came home with a hand knit alpaca cardigan, two skeins of yarn (and yes, I got to meet the sheep that grew the fiber!), a garden dibble and two soapstone shot glasses for my husband as a surprise gift.
All in all, it was a wonderful trip. I had dinner with my friends from Manna Pro one evening, caught up with the folks at Voyageur Press who had a review copy of my new book Gardening with Chickenson display at their booth, and had fun at the Rent the Chicken booth as they explained the whole concept of renting chickens to the crowds.
To make the trip even more fun, my friend Janet from Timber Creek Farm and her husband Gary drove out from Maryland to spend the day on Saturday. I haven't seen Janet in a long time and it was great to catch up with them over beers and burgers in the ski lodge.
I'll be appearing at the Topeka, Kansas fair October 22-23rd, and also at various fairs around the country next year, including Asheville, NC, Belton, TX, Burlington, VT and again at the Seven Springs, PA fair. I would love to meet you!
