This weeks was an exciting one around here! Winter has set in for good and we got lots of snow and temperatures down to -10 degrees overnight. The chickens and ducks are all fine with lots of straw in their coop and scratch grains before bed, although I'm sure they're looking forward to spring! We humans spent one whole day stacking wood for the wood stove, so the house should be nice and toasty all winter long!
My husband and I played hooky earlier in the week and visited Perry's Home Furnishings in Belfast. They carry the Magnolia Home line designed by Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper fame! It was so much fun to walk around the three-story restored barn full of furniture and accessories. Fixer Upper was playing on a television screen and I got a free copy of Chip and Joanna's Magnolia Journal magazine when we left. (I'm hoping to find their new book The Magnolia Story under the tree this Christmas (hint, hint Mark!) but I did decide to bring home a beautiful galvanized tub as a 'souvenir' of our visit. It has been turned into a holiday coffee table display, but I plan to use it year round as an egg basket. We wandered around Belfast, Maine - gorgeous coastal fishing town - and had a nice lunch at Delvinos on Main Street, then headed home to decorate our tree and put up some holiday decorations.
I was excited to have an article featured in Green Child magazine titled Children & Chickens: What Backyard Chickens Can Teach Kidsand also recorded two radio shows this week that should air in the next few weeks. I'll share those links when they go live. I am also happy to report that my books are selling really well this holiday season! Both Fresh Eggs Daily and Gardening with Chickens are consistently in the top ten books in their category on Amazon (so a huge thank you to all of you who have already ordered yours!) I do still have signed copies of both books available for Christmas delivery. On Monday morning I'll ship out the last batch of orders, so if you haven't already, you can order yours HERE.
I'm sitting here right now at our dining room table sipping my coffee and watching the snow gently fall over the fields. We couldn't be happier here in Maine. It's a beautiful state year round - but truly magical in the winter. Take a peek at our week.
