As I sit here on Christmas Eve watching the snow gently fall, it's hard not to reflect on the past year. A new book, a television show, speaking at Disney's Epcot Center, meeting Nancy Fuller from the Food Network's Farmhouse Rules and enjoying our first full year in our new home here in Maine! It's been a crazy busy year, but it's hard not to be extremely grateful for the opportunities that I've been presented over the last five years.
What started out in 2011 as a fun Facebook page where I could post photos of my chickens has turned into a bonafide 'business' and blossomed into this blog, an Instagram feed, freelance writing opportunities, plus several books, appearances on television shows such as Bill Green's Maine and P. Allen Smith's Garden Style, and most recently, a television show of my own which will air five more episodes over the coming year.
Just running the largest chicken keeping page on Facebook is such a huge endeavor, not to mention all the rest of it, but I've tried hard to stick to my roots and not to stray from my original mission - which was to inspire and encourage others to raise chickens, grow gardens and grab a piece of country life no matter where they live. I hope chickens are in your future if they aren't already in your backyard! Enjoy this peek at our week. And have a very Merry Christmas!
