Honey Spice Egg Bread Recipe for your Bread Machine

While I do enjoy the luxury of spending an afternoon making bread by hand, I have to say my bread machine is a lifesaver for when I can't devote several hours to breadmaking.

This honey spice egg bread is light and airy, with just a hint of sweetness and spice. It's based on a basic egg bread to which I have added some of my favorite spices. It has become my go-to bread recipe.

We love this bread on weekends in the morning, but also served alongside pasta at dinnertime.

Just a little bit sweet, it's not really a dessert bread as such.  You can use chicken eggs or duck eggs, just be aware that your bread will rise far higher when you use duck eggs!

If you don't use a bread machine, you can add the honey and spices to your favorite white or egg bread recipe for similar results.

Honey Spice Egg Bread
(makes a 1-1/2 lb. loaf)

2 Fresh eggs
1 Cup warm water
1-1/2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
2 Tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons powdered milk
3 Cups bread flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon each (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and nutmeg)

Add the ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed. Choose the White Course.  Serve your bread warm with butter or honey.  Enjoy!
