A Week in Photos from my #ARStory Road Trip through Arkansas May 14th - 16th

Last week I was offered the fantastic opportunity to tour North Central Arkansas courtesy of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism as part of their #ARStory Road Trip promotion.

Jan from Two Women and a Hoe and I were provided a car, itinerary and map - and set loose for three days to explore Arkansas and share our photos and adventures to help promote Arkansas tourism.

I hope we did the state proud! Enjoy some of the photos from our trip!

(Oh and as an aside, if you ever decide to visit Arkansas, do NOT throw out the paper map thinking its so 2005 and you'll just use your cell phone GPS to navigate....just a travel tip we learned the hard way.)

-our trip began in Little Rock enjoying a hearty Southern-style breakfast at the Root Cafe with Farmer Tyler and Bren from Creative Living and Growing who were about to embark on an adventure of their own-
-of course we had to fuel up before getting on the road. I chose the Cardamom Iced Coffee and it was delicious!-

-We drove for a few hours through beautiful, rural Central Arkansas, stopping at Marshall Scenic Overlook for this pic-
-Then continued on to Ferguson's for a quick burger and fries-

-A few more hours' drive found us at our first destination, Gaston's White River Resort, the trout capital of the USA-

-where we were greeted by this gorgeous white peacock-
-this more traditionally-colored peacock-
-and some free ranging turkeys-
-Jan and I took a quick boat tour down the river and saw a nest of eaglets plus some blue heron-
-then we headed to the dining room where we were seated at a table with a river view!-

-Of course we had to try the trout, my first ever! It was pan-fried and SO good!-

-our accommodations for the night were this cute pink bungalow on the White River-
-breakfast was another hearty Southern specialty with homemade sausage and white gravy on biscuits-

-after breakfast we got on the road again and stopped to take photos of various landscapes and other interesting things we saw along the way-

-what a gem this is! The Heirloom Seed Shop in Norfolk, Arkansas-
-We were starting to get hungry, so as we drove through the booming metropolis of Calico Rock, we figured we should stop for lunch-
-The Printing Press Cafe & Ice Cream Parlor proved to be a wonderful choice for lunch, then we did a bit of antiquing before getting on the road again-

-Our destination was the Pinewood Cabins in Mountain View to spend the night. This could NOT have been a cuter place to stay!-
-Jan and I had the Gone with the Wind cabin. SO cozy and inviting-
-Jan and I had dinner at Angler's in Mountain View. The hush puppies and shrimp were amazing-
-The next day was pouring rain but we did drive around downtown Mountain View a bit (cute town BTW!) before getting back on the road to head back to Little Rock-

-Heading back to Little Rock, we stopped into this cute garden shop to ask directions. I don't have any idea where we were at that point (see note above about not throwing out your paper map! While the countryside in North Central Arkansas is beautiful, the cell service is lacking in areas!)
-One last stop before heading back to return our car, these strawberries just looked too good not to take a closer peek-

Jan and I are so appreciate of the efforts of Mimi and P. Allen Smith's team in setting this up as well as all the coordinating and organizing that Elizabeth from CJRW and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism did to afford us this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, as well as all the restaurants and lodging destinations who couldn't have been more hospitable and made our stay such a pleasure.

We hope you will consider Arkansas for your next vacation destination!
I would love for you to join me here...
