Take a Peek at My Week - July 1 to 7

Sorry for the late post this week, but we had friends come stay with us and were busy doing the "tourist thing" with them this week. The early part of the week, as we welcomed July, we battled a crazy heat wave like the rest of the country and saw unheard of heat indices near 100 degrees. That meant ice water and cooling treats for all the animals, and lots of lazing around just trying to stay cool (without central air conditioning!).

We had one chick hatch on Sunday from the last batch of eggs we had under a broody hen - I think the heat was just too much for the rest - so now we have five-week old ducklings and chicks and a week-old chick to add to our flock.

We spent a quiet day at home on the 4th, then on Thursday, I headed to Portland to record a radio show for Maine Calling on the NPR station here in Maine. It was a lot of fun to share the mic with two poultry experts from UMaine and answer questions from listeners who called in. You can actually listen to the entire show here.

Then we loaded up the car and headed to Bangor to see Stephen King's house and have lunch downtown, and then the following day we enjoyed lobster in Bar Harbor, browsed some of the shops in town (I signed a few books in Shermans' Bookstore if you're in the area and in the market for one!), grabbed a lobster ice cream at Ben & Bills, then explored a bit in Acadia National Park, took in the view from the top of Cadillac Mountain and brought home more lobster for dinner that night! A good time was had by all. Enjoy this peek at our week!
